THE POLLEY FAMILY LOOKS BACK AT 2008
Seminary semester has ended and it was a great semester that included:
Our friends, here is our yearly letter as to help you keep track of the Polley family. Tim continues on at the Dubuque Theological Seminary and has just finished another semester. We hope that you and your families are well and that God continues to bless you all.
Tim’s seminary classes last semester:
· New Testament Exegesis: This focused on the Gospel of Mark. This class required us to read, translate and parse Greek, our work was shown in an end of semester workbook (10% of grade). A semester exegesis paper that was 60% of semester grade and a final that was 30% of semester grade.
· Christian Social Ethics: Three semester papers that dealt with hot issues that today’s ministers are facing. Homosexuality, Abortion, Assisted Suicide and Racism.
· Forgiveness of Sins: Two papers that were on pastoral counseling.
· God’s Missionaries and Leading Short Term Mission Trips: Two papers and an end of semester workbook on mission trip resources. This is a prep course if one wants to go on the Ghana Mission Trip.
Next semester I have:
Church History Reformation to the present: Theology of Mission and Evangelism: Pastoral Care: Sabbath: This is considered 12 semester hours, which is all I can take while still working part-time.
Tim: I still continue to work at John Deere on the weekends, while working part-time as the Illinois representative for a security company out of Arizona. Additionally I have started substitute teaching on my Friday’s off and have recently taught 7th and 8th grade. I have also been doing pulpit fill at a new church start in Peosta Iowa and recently dedicated my first baby =)
Lynne: continues to work full-time for the Association for Retarded Citizens and is the Choir Director at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Davenport Iowa. On her days off she also is a substitute teacher for the Moline School District.
Sean: Sean is in his senior year at Moline High School and continues to work at Papa Murphy’s Pizza; he has been accepted to the University of Dubuque next year. He is currently dating Olivia who lives in Princeton Illinois; they met at a Young Life camp last semester.
Ben: Ben is in 6th grade and will be heading to middle school next year; he is doing well in school. Please keep Ben in prayer as he continues growth while dealing with the issues that have been presented before him
